1/24/08 - A COLD WALK WITH OLLIE

Oh my! It is quite cold in these parts. So cold that by 1:30pm in the afternoon, when my friend Carol arrived to go walking with me, the grass on our front lawn was still frozen solid.
But the sun was shining and it was such a clear, pretty day that we just wanted to be out there. So, I bundled Oliver in 3 layers including snow pants and off we went.

Half way through the walk it occurred to me that Ollie was sucking on his hat likely because I had forgotten his binky (pacifier). I didn't know how he would react since that kid has that thing in his mouth constantly. Maybe it was the beautiful scenery or the riveting conversation and company he was amongst, but he simply didn't care. That's a good thing since I've been wondering how on earth we were ever going to wean him from that thing.

1/16/08 - OUCH! ANOTHER TOOTH POKES THROUGH

Wow, can you say "fussy"?!! We thought it was just 2 more teeth coming in but it's 3. Ollie is fussy and cried on and off today for hours. You wouldn't know it by this picture. I caught him in a rare happy moment of the day.

It's amazing to me. All of these people in the world walking around with mouths full of teeth that some parent had to endure. I mean, of course the kid has to endure the pain and that's worse. I certainly feel so sad when my little guys are in pain. But I also get exhausted from the all crying and sleepless nights that teething causes.

But the funnier thing is how you soon forget all of these struggles. I was trying to remember the struggles of Orion teething and I couldn't. I'm sure it was rough on him too...and us. But somehow amidst all of the constant parenting hurdles, I've forgotten that one. Maybe that's God's mercy. He helps you forget the painful times and just remember mostly the good ones.

1/13/08 - FAMILY PLAY DAY

RETURN TO ORION'S BLOG
Well, we tried to go to church today but some sort of event must have been happening at the church because we couldn't find a parking spot for blocks and finally gave up. Then we went to the mall to eat lunch, return christmas gifts, and let Orion play on the toys.

After the mall it was still a nice sunny (but cold) day so we loaded up the boys and went to Rainier Vista park in Lacey. It's a park that has very little shading...perfect for a sunny but cold day in this area.
Then we headed home.

Ollie seems a bit fussy and we think we know why. He has 2 more teeth erupting. These are on the bottom and when they are completely in he will now have 6 teeth...2 on top and 4 on bottom.
Ollie is pointing a lot more and trying to mimic what we say. He also attemps sign language occasionally. He still remains to be a gentle-spirited child...even in his fussy times.

1/11/08 - OLIVER'S FIRST CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE

RETURN TO ORION'S BLOG
Oliver had his very first experience being in childcare when I went to AMFM (a morning for moms) today at Grace Covenant Community Church.

When I first dropped him off at the nursery he cried and made his pouting face. But apparently, minutes later, he was happy to play with all the new toys without his brother knocking him over.
When I returned to pick him up an hour and a half later he had his back turned to me and was content and playing. But the moment he heard and saw Mommy he broke out into tears as if to say "How could you leave me with these strangers Mommy?". He recovered very quickly though. I just hope he didn't pick up some super germ while playing with the other babies.
