Today I was changing Ollie's clothes and he liked being naked. Then suddenly he hit 3 baby milestones all in one moment. He discovered his hands were functional. He discovered he could grab his toes. And he discovered he could grab his toes and roll on his side. This was fun for a long while for him. He gave me lots of smiles and giggles.

But the smiles quickly faded when his backed-up tummy pain returned. He hasn't had a major movement in many days and he's just so frustrated. So, today I opted not to give him Prevacid since it can cause backups. Let's just hope I don't find this to be a big mistake at 3 AM.

Ollie has had many feeding refusals and, in fact, today went for over 5 hours refusing to eat. But he was hungry all at the same time. So he cried and cried.
His crying caused Orion to ramp up his antics! He wanted more and more attention and mimicked Ollie's crying. Mommy was on the verge but held it together. When Daddy came home everyone was calm and happy as if nothing ever happened.

3/24/07 - ROOK PARTY WITH OLLIE

Tonight we had our friends Christy and Jeff over to play Rook and have some Gluten-Free snacks!

Big brother Orion went to a friend's house while Ollie hung out during the card game in his car seat.
He loves his car seat. Because of his acid reflux he needs to always be at a slightly upright angle, so the car seat is perfect for him to lounge around in.

Ollie was awake during the whole gathering but just sat and observed without much fuss at all.

We played men against women and the men beat us by far. Oy! Maybe that's because when you count Ollie, there were 3 guys but only 2 gals. Heck, if you throw in Baxter (the dog) there were 4 guys. We were simply out numbered!

3/12/07 - UNCOMFORTABLE OLLIE

RETURN TO ORION'S BLOG
So, in the previous post I had to open my big mouth and say how easy it is to care for Ollie. Then in an instant things change. I still think it all stems from some digestive problems with Ollie. He is just squirming a lot and seems very uneasy and uncomfortable.

Lately it feels like I just get done with dealing with Orion's chaos and screaming and I turn around and Ollie is fussing and needs to be picked up. And I then go through the whole routine of burping, rocking, walking, nursing, pacing, swinging on front porch, baby bjorn front pack, singing, and bouncing on one foot while cackling like a chicken. Okay, maybe I made up that last part. But honestly, I try everything and usually after about 45 minutes something works. Either that or Ollie just wears himself out from fussing.

Today I pretended like we were slow dancing in the kitchen and I sang "Dream a Little Dream of Me" while twirling around with him. That finally worked. I had to slowly twirl him into his car seat and continue singing to get him to go to sleep. Then he was in a deep sleep.

My house is a mess, my life is disorderly, I rarely have something prepared for dinner when John gets home. But hey...everyone is alive. That's gotta count for something!

3/9/07 - FUSSY AND HAPPY MOMENTS

RETURN TO ORION'S BLOG
Oliver has been a bit fussy lately. It seems like something is making him uncomfortable. It might be his acid reflux since I changed the time that I give him his medication. Who knows?

Lately he might quietly fuss for a whole hour and I'll put him in the baby bjorn and walk around. That won't work. So I'll take him out and put him in the bouncy chair. That won't work. So then I'll try rocking him. That won't work. I'll try nursing. Not interested. Finally yesterday, I walked outside with him and he was quiet. I think he was stunned into quietness. But it was too darn cold out there so we didn't stay long.

Then moments later he can turn around and be so happy and social. He coos and aahs and smiles at you. It just melts you.

Even saying all of this...I still think he is one of the easiest babies to care for. He generally sleeps well, he travels in a car well, he shops well, he sleeps through my bible study class, he sits quietly in his car seat through MOPS. He is just easy. He doesn't even freak out when his brother yells in his face when he's sleeping. He just looks stunned and goes back to sleep. He's a go with the flow kinda guy. You gotta love that!
